On Saturday night, Ava and Mommy said goodbye to Daddy as he and the high school & jr high students boarded a 12 hr bus ride. Because he loves his wife and child, Ava and I got to take a plane Sunday morning from LAX to Salt Lake. Below is the true account of our journey.
We arrived at LAX before the sun woke up that day. We checked in and went thru security: all of which I have no pictoral documentation due to the fact that eventhough Ava was sound asleep in her car seat the TSA agents insisted that seeing her for themselves was not sufficient, oh no no, to prove she was not a bomb I had to wake her up and then with sleepy baby in my arms fold up the stroller and car seat and put them on the conveyor to be scanned... all this with no shoes on my feet. We made it through that and then had to walk to the VERY last gate at LAX, as we finally walked up I heard them announce that we were boarding. I again had to take Ava out of her seat (and into a sling this time) and fold up her car seat and stroller and store them in the gate check bags, thankfully an older woman took pity on me and helped out (unlike the 3 other people that took pity on me, visually and verbally, but did nothing to help) I thanked and blessed this gracious woman about a dozen before being the last person on board the flight. Mommy had some concerns that the flight might not go so well being that the day had started off on such a hurried and harried note but, Avagail again proved, she's a perfect child. Ava was an angel the whole time. She sat on my lap (yes sat, she did not even want to stand like she normally does) and slept in my arms.
We did encounter one slight hiccough, Ava is a baby and inevitably she needed a diaper change, which I successfully completed in the smallest airplane bathroom known the US fleet, but then discovered that the diaper did not contain the mess and her pants and onesie were in need of renewal... and therefore I had to plan my attack strategically: after returning to my seat, I waited until the beverage cart was passed, then I quickly laid down a blanket and baby in the one tiny isle in the middle of the plane, removed her clothing and got her in fresh garments
before anyone even noticed. All they saw was a flash and then Ava was in a cute new outfit: yes, I am that good. (I ncluded a picture of the tiny isle so you can all be impressed with our mad skills.)
When the flight was complete we went to rent our car, which was outdoor... Our rental counter was furthest away form the terminal, our car lot was the furthest away from the rental car counters,
and our car was the fursthest corner of that outdoor lot... in Utah... in December...in 20 degree weather. Perfect. I was again in awe, Ava was happy the whole time, Mommy is so blessed. We took the hour drive to Ogden, found our familiar hotel, checked in and settled down for a long winter's nap. I think Mommy needed it more than Avagail, Mommy had an eventful day, Ava got to see new sights and was very pleased with her trip. I think next time we travel I will know how to prepare and what NOT to do. But even if things don't go smoothly, I have an amazing traveling companion with me that always keeps me smiling.
